John Swingle collection of letters by writers of fiction set in California, 1862-1907.

The letters include an ALS from Theresa Yelverton to Blanchard Jerrold, dated 1862 Jul 17, regarding her marriage; two ALS with envelopes from Kirk Munroe to John Swinton dated 1898 Dec 18, regarding "Copper Princess," and 1899 Jan 13, concerning a notice by Swinton in "the Telegram"; an ALS from Gertrude Atherton to an unidentified recipient dated 1903 Mar 15, regarding What Dreams May Come; an ALS from Walter Besant dated 1901 May 5, written in response to an author who sent Besant his first novel; and a TLS from Horace Annesley Vachell to the "Editor of the Spectator," dated 1930 Mar 11, protesting a review of "The Best of England." In addition to the letters there are five galley proof sheets for an unidentified work about a character named Bendix Biargo, and an undated cabinet photograph by L. Suzuki of Japan of John Franklin Swift signed, "Yours truly, John F. Swift."
